Why I Create

I grew up a grunge kid in the 90s—shaped by a do-it-yourself spirit, flea market adventures, and a deep belief that we all share responsibility for the world around us. I was raised to value public service, community, and the idea that small actions can make a meaningful difference.

That ethos carried me into a career dedicated to restoring the health of rivers for the aquatic and human communities that depend on them. I’ve spent my professional life working to heal what’s been overlooked—and Serena’s Curiosities is, in many ways, an extension of that philosophy.

Sustainability at the Heart

This business is built on the belief in a truly circular economy:

I seek out thrifted and antique vessels that deserve a second life, transforming them into unique candles meant to be enjoyed, refilled, or repurposed. Each candle is made with:

  • Sustainable soy wax

  • Thoughtfully sourced wicks and materials

  • Reused or minimal packaging whenever possible

  • A commitment to keeping beautiful objects out of landfills
